In July 2011, a draft proposal for the reorganization was accepted and, in October, it was decided that the College of Engineering would be reorganized into the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Architecture and Environmental Design. An application for the reorganization was filed with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and approved at the end of May 2012. These colleges will be opened in April 2013. The University is currently providing the public with information on the application for these new colleges.It was also decided to establish the College of Nursing, which will be designed to prepare students for the nursing profession and these nurses will practice the school motto “Be a man and serve the world.” The objective to establish the College of Nursing is to address the serious shortage of nurses and develop professionals who will contribute to improving the healthcare and welfare in our local communities. The construction of a new building for the College of Nursing started in March 2012. At the end of May 2012, the application for the establishment of the new college was filed with the MEXT. As soon as it is approved, we will start accepting applications for entrance into the college in April 2013.In the ongoing reorganization project, the reform of the College of Humanities, College of Economics, and College of Human and Environmental Studies is also being discussed. The establishment of new colleges and changes in the composition of the colleges serve as a means for us to convey our message to society about the direction in which our university should be going. While reorganizing the university to meet the changes of the times, Kanto Gakuin University is also focusing its efforts on improving and reforming the teaching content and methods based on accurate understanding of our students’ academic achievements, interests, motivation, and other circumstances. With the reorganization as an impetus, Kanto Gakuin University has taken the first step toward beginning a new era.2013年4月開設に向けて直ちに学生募集を開始することになります。 以上が改組第一弾です。改組構想は、さらに続きます。その後の新学部設置に向けて、文学部、経済学部、人間環境学部においても改組が検討されています。いずれも、それぞれの教育資源を有効に活用して、これからの時代に相応しい人材育成を通じて社会に貢献するという方針に沿って行われています。これらについては具体化した段階で改めて報告いたします。改組の意義 学部・学科の改組や新設は、大学の将来を左右する重大な決断です。新学部の設置や学部構成の変更は、本学の進むべき教育の方向について社会にメッセージを送る手段となります。もちろん、改組の意義はそれだけにとどまりません。改組には、それを構想し決定するプロセス自体に大きな意義があります。 改組すれば、それまでの組織の構造も運営方法も変わることになります。それに慣れ親しんだ人々にとっては、愛着があり、思い入れがありますので、改組に消極的になりがちです。改組を実現するには、そうした人々こそ改組構想に加わってもらう必要があります。改組は、教職員一人ひとりが現状に対する客観的な分析と評価を行い、育成すべき人材像を論じ、学部・学科等の将来像を共有するプロセスです。そこに意見の対立や感情的な溝が生まれるのはやむをえないことです。それを回避するのではなく、それを乗り越えて学部・学科の将来像を共有することから、将来への希望と教育に携わる意義を見出すことができます。改組の持つ意義は非常に大きいのです。 不確実性の大きな社会環境においては、現状維持は、思考停止状態に陥り、むしろ不安定な状態を引き起こします。厳しい経済競争を乗り越えてきた優れた経営者が異口同音に述べているところですが、変動著しい状況下では、過去の成功体験がときに障害になります。組織の安定的存続のためには、前例にとらわれず持続的変革を遂行しなければなりません。 ただし、改組しただけでは厳しい競争的環境下で安定的存続は保証されません。本学は、時代の変化に適応した改組を行う一方で、目の前にいる学生の学力、関心、意欲等を的確に把握しながら教育内容、教育方法等の改善・改革に取り組んでいます。関東学院大学は、改組を契機にして新時代を拓く一歩を踏み出しました。病院の病棟をイメージした実習室建築・環境学部が主に使用する建築・環境棟(仮称)の完成予想図
